Singing: Thinking of a Houston Named Whitney
On My Mind Always

Everybody wants to know what happened to Whitney Houston. That means somebody was paying attention. That means somebody cared. I can hear her voice playing back in my mind.

Whitney Houston Quote: "Is there a misconception of the fact that when we became famous that we have these beautiful perfect lives, and that nothing is ever on a low? ..... Money doesn't make you happy."

All the time that Whitney was talking, how well did we listen? She was letting us know she was just a human being with ups and downs like you and I. I wish that I could have sat down and had a conversation with Whitney as a friend. I never got the chance to meet her, and now that she's gone, I've seen her maybe once or twice in my dreams. It kind of soothes the sorrow, but it still hurts if you know what I mean. .....

No Matter What the World May Say, My Feelings Don't Change About Whitney

WIkipedia.org
People write books about Whitney Houston, and they tell you about the Whitney they knew. Yea, I read them. I read her mom's book, her friend BeBe Winans's book, and a little bit of Robyn Crawford's book. Maybe they all felt that we needed to know more about Whitney Houston the human being. Well, I already knew that Whitney was a human being, but I didn't have her soul, and I didn't know what she was going through. I didn't know what was truly bothering her and what led her to her mistakes. But I can tell you this, I forgive her, because I know I'm no better than she. Like her, I'm a human being that was brought up in the word of the Lord, and I'm not perfect either. Parents make mistakes some too in raising us and we should forgive them. None of us are without fault, and we are all born in sin. Only Jesus Christ was not born in sin and according to him, there is none good but God

Mark 10:18  And Jesus said unto him, Why callest me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Jesus also mentioned that the father was greater. St. John 14:28 ..for my father is greater than I.

Movies and documentaries are being made about Whitney. Everybody is giving their opinion and writing stories. All that is fine for those that loved Whitney's music and are her biggest fans. Some of us that are fans have every picture of her on the wall, every album that she ever made, and every movie that she ever made. But not all fans are the same. I don't have any of her pictures on the wall. It wasn't allowed, and to be honest, I don't have her albums, but I have recorded her videos in the past when I learned what a VCR was. I was raised not to put a celebrity above God and not everybody has been raised that way. However, like any other fan, I loved hearing Whitney Houston sing. So I'm no different there. There is nothing wrong with that. I loved watching her videos. I always wanted to meet her, and I never cared much about what was going on in her personal life and the gossip about her dealing with problems in my own life. I was talked about too. I just wasn't known all over the world like Whitney.

No matter what the world may say about Whitney Houston, my feelings don't change about her. I love Whitney Houston, and I hope to see her one day in heaven.

Whitney's Fans Are Still Investigating

Wikipedia.org
The whole story about how Whitney died just doesn't make any sense to anyone. Whitney's death has everyone talking, studying, and investigating. First of all, everybody that was in and near Whitney's room should have been questioned and in court. That's how it would have been done if it were some other person. They wouldn't have looked at it as just someone drowning or someone that had been doing drugs. Whitney Houston was a star, and whether she was on drugs or not, they should have investigated further. There are people that kill people when it comes to drugs, and they go on killing if they can get away with murder. Why was Whitney Houston murdered if she was murdered? Most people think it was for money.

Not knowing what really happened, there are some angry fans blaming Pat Houston and her family. They are angry at Whitney's brother Gary. I think the documentary titled Whitney made people think more about who was with and around Whitney and why she was left alone after she died. The fans don't understand how the lady that was with Whitney found that the water was turned off. Who turned it off? Why was she in the tub when it was told Whitney didn't take baths in hotels?

If Whitney was murdered, the truth is going to come out. It is going to be clearly seen because somebody knows what really happened to Whitney Houston.

Whitney Behind the Scenes With TLC

YouTube
Whitney Houston had no sisters, but she had a lot of them in the entertainment world. She seemed to be having fun behind the scenes of this video "I'm Every Woman" with the group TLC. When I first saw the video, I thought, "Wait a minute! They look familiar! I know them girls!"

Whitney had a lot of familiar looking talented people in her video. I thought, "Whitney has got a big crew of people in this video. She's throwing down on this one. She ain't playing!"

I could see the purpose of having so many girls and women in the video. After all, Whitney was singing, "I'm Every Woman."  I saw Chaka Khan who first sang the song, Valerie Simpson, and more.

Looking behind the scenes, you can see Whitney giving TLC a whole lot of love, and they all seemed like close sisters just having a ball. The joy and love was spreading everywhere behind the scenes. "I'm Every Woman" was a very special video. It brought joy to me, and it was fun to watch as well.

How Whitney Saved a Life and Her Dancers Grown Up

Do you remember Whitney Houston's dancers?  Whitney has recognized people and made a difference in their lives. She has done good things that we may not all know she has done. I don't know if Whitney saw herself and how important she was to people. Though I never met her, she was important to me. Hearing Whitney sing, made me want to go on singing, and singing helped me to go on living. I don't know if Whitney felt loved, but people still talk about her and remember her today. So she must have had an impact on some people's lives.

Whitney Houston had some dancers on the stage with her. I remember when they were girls, and they were very talented dancers. They always amazed me how they moved in dancing. How Whitney met them, I do not know. She must have been good at seeking out talent. Whitney knew what was good, and she knew what she wanted. When she wanted to do something or wanted something, she went after it and got it.

One of the dancers is alive today because of Whitney Houston. All of them are alive and well. They took good care of themselves. I'm sure Whitney must have had an influence on them. See what they had to say from The Whitney Vault video.

The Voice In the Rock

When Whitney Houston was alive, she would sing the gospel song, "I Go To The Rock". She could move the audience singing that song. Now that Whitney is not with us, I think of her with God and still singing better than before. I think of her as the voice in the rock.

Whitney Houston Told Us In So Many Words

Google Labeled for Reuse
We all watched Whitney knowing that something was slowly happening. It all started that Whitney was a good and innocent child of God just singing. We loved her singing, but then Whitney started to talk about the kind of singers like Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson. And the kind of songs that were being made like the song Things That Make You Go Hmmm in the 80's  by C+C Music Factory. She told her mom according to what was shown in film that she wouldn't sell out. Whitney got a recording contract for her singing which was real talent. She really used her voice. Great and special songs were made for Whitney.

The next thing I remember is Whitney getting booed on the Soul Train Awards. I remember her getting married. Whom she married seemed a very odd choice to people so suddenly. To be honest, I wondered why. I remember she seemed quite nervous to do the movie, The Body Guard. It was said that Whitney played herself. For some reason that was pointed out. I can't help but think that was used to make Whitney's image look bad in the long run. Whitney had questions too.

Houston: Scared to death. Terribly frightened. I mean, Kevin Costner. I said, why me? He said, because you're the only one that can sing.

In the music business, it seems when you sing and become popular, you are offered movie roles. I think at this point, Whitney Houston knew what was happening to her. In the music business, it seems to me it is important to them or the media who you are dating and who you marry. It is important whether you are gay or not. Your image is important but it seems like nobody was truly on her side. The next thing I knew, Whitney was in the tabloids a lot about drugs and her marriage. Everybody wanted to know about her personal life.

I was preached to about the spotlight of the world and was warned to never forget God. So I kind of understand what might have been going on with Whitney Houston. The business didn't want a good girl like her. Whitney was not doing anything to mess up her career in the beginning. It may have looked like Whitney's fault but I refuse to believe Whitney made some of the choices because she wanted to. I believe the music business is a trick. It has been said that you can enter in an angel and come out a devil. Whitney told us about demons. She told Diane Sawyer that she was not sick. So that led me to believe that it was not all just about drugs when it came to Whitney Houston. 😭

Whitney Houston told us in so many words what was going on to Diane Sawyer. Houston: Scared. When they said that I had died, I did, I changed my mind. I changed my mind. Yep. Because I didn't want to look like the rest of them. I didn't want to be like them. It frightened me. I don't ever want to be in the realm of, where I'm caught in a mold and I can't get out. Never. That's over. I'm beyond it.

There are a lot of things that Whitney Houston said to Diane Sawyer that has me thinking more about how she might have died. I think not only should there have  been an investigation on Whitney Houston's death, but there should have been an investigation on something beyond that. First there was Michael Jackson, then Whitney, and then Prince. It was happening too dang much. They all were suppose to have died from drugs.

To this day, I still think about Whitney. I wish that I could have been there for her and could have said something to help her. Whitney's life was complicated, and she might not would have listened anyway. I care about Whitney Houston more than I ever did. Before, I didn't quite understand.

Aaliyah Probably Would Have Confided in Whitney Houston

Wikipedia.org

It has been said that Aaliyah did not want to do  a video in the Bahamas on her song Rock the Boat. It has been said that Aaliyah did not want to get on the plane to leave the Bahamas. It sounds as if Aaliyah knew something was wrong. Did Aaliyah know that something was wrong? Was Aaliyah in some kind of trouble? Was she in some kind of trouble like Biggie? He was murdered. Did Aaliyah think she was going to die too? How Aaliyah died never made sense to a lot of people.

I saw Aaliyah looking upset on a video. She pointed out how beautiful the sun was. Aaliyah didn't look happy. It is said that she didn't have to do her video in the Bahamas.

Aaliyah was suppose to have met Whitney Houston after she got back from the Bahamas. Things were looking great for Aaliyah. She was suppose to have been in the movie Sparkle with Whitney. However, Aaliyah didn't make it back from the Bahamas. She was killed in a plane crash. If something was going on with Aaliyah, I believe she would have confided in Whitney Houston if she had lived. Whitney was hurt that Aaliyah had died. If I'm not mistaken, the movie Sparkle that Aaliyah was getting ready for with Whitney was postponed. If Whitney had known that Aaliyah was in any trouble, I'm sure Whitney would have helped her. She seemed to like Aaliyah a lot, and I don't think Whitney met Aaliyah. I do remember Whitney saying that she was an Aaliyah fan, and she seemed to have thought highly of Missy Elliot.

Whitney and Her Family Brought Some Hope

YouTube
The night I saw Whitney singing Wonderful Counselor with her mom and brother, I'll never forget the happy spirit my mom had. My mom would shout, "Sing Y'all!" My mom loved gospel music, and she knew what the songs were all about. We both watched Whitney and her family sing. My mom would say something like, " Look at them people out there in the audience. They are enjoying that." My mom said some other things. She had me thinking about me, my brother, and her doing things together, and what was it about Whitney and her mom that seemed so much like me and my mom? And because of Whitney's mom being  a lady in the church, I felt that Whitney was a winner. She looked like she had a good mother behind her. Whitney's family appeared to love the church. They brought some hope. I had never seen anyone in the music business like Whitney.

I know that Whitney is gone. I know for sure that my mom is gone because I saw her die. But why do I feel from God that it's not over yet? He doesn't like for me to say that my mom is gone. He didn't want me to worry about the death of Whitney. Well, all I can say that in God there is always hope. We've got to trust and believe in him. We don't know what God might do. He's got all power. People make mistakes but that doesn't always mean we fail.

Whitney Houston's Studio Vocals

YouTube
Live Singing

Whitney Houston was a great singer singing live on stage. She could hold a note a long time. Whitney could sing any way she wanted and could sing how she wanted. She had a lot of experience singing in the church and taught by her mom Cissy Houston. I heard Miss Houston say something about Whitney singing from the head, chest, and stomach in the documentary. She said Whitney could do it all. I never knew what Whitney was doing because I didn't know about singing that way when I first heard her songs. All I knew, I would be very tired trying to sing her song, Greatest Love of All. I never felt tired in singing before singing songs by Sister Sledge, Stevie Wonder, Pointer Sisters, and so on.

Whitney Houston brought something to a new generation. Everybody was trying to show off their voices that I knew could sing from the church. I began to notice more and more people doing the kind of thing Whitney would do in singing. To be honest, it didn't suit everybody. Some folks were doing too much, and I thought it might be too much on my vocal chords. I didn't change. I just kept singing ignoring all the other stuff. I listened to the Motown singers and paid attention to their sound recordings. Even Aretha Franklin. She could do what Whitney did with a different voice and Whitney listened to Aretha. I thought, Everybody has their own way. If it sounds good, it sounds good.

Studio Sound

In the studio, there are special effects that you may here on records like echo and reverb. For Whitney, it didn't matter. She sounded great no matter how it was done in the studio. Whitney Houston could sing. She had a beautiful vocal. Whitney could sing out loud and strong. She was taught how to do it. There is a lot to singing. The problem I had was hearing Whitney sing her songs. My mom told me I needed to hear me. I couldn't see that then mocking records. I see that now though I knew who I was writing and singing my own songs. That's the only way I could hear me.

I wish I could have shared my songs with Whitney Houston. I wanted to be her song writer and write the kind of songs like Rod Temperton wrote for Michael Jackson. Such were Off the Wall and Rock With You. I wanted to write her more songs like The Greatest Love of All because of her vocals. However, songwriting is not always easy. You need something to write about and some experience. Not just something thrown together. Whitney was looking for meaning and I dig that. That's what helped her singing too. Whitney also needed something soulful and something she could really get down with. I believe that the dance songs like Rod Temperton wrote for Michael would have really brought something more out of Whitney, She loved to dance.

Whitney Houston Chased in her Dream

Art by Gail Nobles

Kevin Macdonald's  documentary of Whitney Houston mentions she was running from something big. In the dream, it never catches Whitney. Whatever it was, it was probably evil and wanted her soul. Maybe it never caught her because maybe it never captured her soul. Whit knew there was a God above, and she knew who to run to. She knew who the savior was.

Whitney Houston and the Rest Note

Art by Gail Nobles
Right now today, I miss Whitney Houston. Every time I listen to music, I think of her. I think of Whitney and the rest note because she is resting. She went to rest in her new home. Whitney is silent to us. In heaven, her soul might be singing. If so, her notes have sound in heaven.

When Whitney was on earth singing, I believe God was listening. There is one thing I know for sure. God doesn't forget what you do for him. If you sing for him, he remembers. If you talk about him, he remembers. When Whitney won all those awards on earth for singing, she was cleaning house. In other words, she won many. Just imagine her reward in heaven. Up there, there are greater and everlasting things for Whitney that no man can take. No dust can get to it, and she has plenty of room. And as far as singing, she's probably singing notes  you never heard her sing before.
