Remembering Whitney Chapter 1 and 2 Review

Google Image
Today, I received Cissy Houston's book in the mail. So far, I have read chapter 1 and 2. Chapter 1 was about the last time Cissy saw Whitney, but chapter 2 was a better chapter. I knew and could feel everything Cissy was talking about, because how she grew up is kind of the way my mother grew up. Like Cissy, my mother grew up in hard times and came from a family of fourteen. Cissy's mother had eight children. While reading about Cissy's family, if I had not known any better, I would have thought that I was reading about my own family. Cissy had an Aunt named Juanita and so did I on my mother's side. Cissy described her father, and the description of him sounded like my great great grandmother's father. The way Cissy described herself as a little girl was kind of the way my mother described herself as a little girl. Cissy's mom had to battle with sickness and so did my mom's mother. Reading about Cissy and her family made me wonder. I enjoyed reading chapter 2 titled , "A Child of Newark".

Whitney & Celine

From YouTube

Celine: I can't sing it like you Whitney. But if I may, in celebration of everything that you did for me, and for so many other artists, by setting the bar so high, I'd like to sing one of my truly favorite Whitney songs. A song that says as much about you as it does about all of us.
